Tips for Choosing Safe Beauty Products
Nowadays, we have to choose from among a great variety of beauty products, which only makes it harder for us to decide which ones are right for us. But of course, it’s a challenge we’ll always be happy to accept. And it all begins with becoming a clever and well-informed shopper.
The following are tips for choosing effective, affordable, and most importantly, safe beauty products:
Brands are important.
You will find countless beauty products being sold these days on Facebook, Instagram and other social media sites. But most certainly, these products will not all be good for you. For one, there are many different manufacturers, not to mention many different ingredients. To stay safe, always pick cosmetic products from trusted and established brands. If you’re worried about the price, just keep in mind that when it comes to beauty products, you always get what you pay for.
Do your homework.
Before buying any particular product, take time to know more about it. What are its ingredients? Don’t easily fall for positive reviews, unless you read them off of trusted consumer websites. Even those praises on social media must be taken with a grain of salt. Perhaps the most important thing to consider is the reputation of this company that manufactured the product.
Skip anything that is not clinically tested.
This is specifically important for those who deal with skin hypersensitivity issues. Always go for a product that has been clinically tested and proven safe while providing its promised benefits.
Understand the terms.
Prepare for a bit of tongue-twisting with terms like isopropylparaben or methylchloroisothiazolinone, but as you get more familiar with them, it will be easier. The idea is to know what exactly you’re buying. If you’re sensitive to artificial scents, for instance, don’t get anything that contains phthalates.
Test the product on yourself.
If you’ve been using mostly unhealthy products in the past, you can still develop an adverse reaction to non-toxic ones. That’s the reason you really have to test these products on yourself, which is fortunately very easy to do. Simply apply a reasonable amount of the product on your skin and observe for any reactions within 24 hours. And even if a product has been clinically tested, always remember that there is still a chance that it will not be safe for you.
Speak to an expert.
If you’re still not confident about the information you’ve gathered on your own, consult a dermatologist and ask for advice. Nothing wrong with admitting that you need somebody’s help.
